Been a long time since an update, but want to make sure that all parents and students are on the sawm page now that we are leaving Marching Band and heading into the Fall/Winter and 2nd Semester.
First off, you all should know your band ensemble assignments for the Fall Concert at this point. There will be after-school rehearsals with the bands on Nov. 14th:
- Concert 2 – 4:00-5:00
- Concert 1 – 5:00-6:30
- Symphonic Band – 6:30-8:30 (unless you get done earlier)
The Fall Concert will be Thursday, Nov. 16th at 7:00PM in the Wando PAC, and dress is full concert black (Tuxes for the guys, concert dresses for the gals)
For this concert, I have placed students into ensembles based on age, experience, and past auditions, but all future concert band placements will be based on the Fall Auditions.
Percussion Fall Auditions will be after school , from 4-7, on Monday, November 27th. The auditions will consist of:
- Clinic Snare Solo
- Snare Sight-Reading
- Clinic Mallet Solo
- Mallet Sight-Reading
There will not be any terms, rudiments, buzz rolls, cymbal crashes or scales as part of the audition. Soon after auditions, ensemble placements will be posted. Students will be expected to attend the correct band rehearsal on Tuesday, December 5th, based on these placements.
The Concerto Recital is scheduled for Thursday, November 30th, at 6:00pm. It will consist of several of our top students playing solo works for their instruments. We may have a percussionist joining the lineup this year, so support your friends!
The Christmas Parade is on Sunday, December 10th. All drumline students will be part of the parade, as well as at least a few members of the pit to play cymbals. We will start with volunteers, but will need at least 3 front ensemble members to participate. There is one rehearsal for the parade on Wednesday, December 6th from 4:00-5:30. The dress for the parade is full uniform, plus everyone wears a Santa Hat.
The Kaleidoscope Concert is on Tuesday, December 12th, and will consist of Concert 2, Concert 1, Symphonic, and Jazz Band Performances, in addition to several small chamber groups. If anyone has a group of friends interested in playing a chamber piece for percussion ensemble, please let me know, and I will help you find literature.
There will not be any percussion ensemble rehearsals until the new year. Please disregard the scheduled rehearsals on Monday, December 4th and Monday, December 11th.
In addition, the Percussion and Jazz Concert has been moved from Friday, April 27th to Thursday, April 26th. update your calendars!
Percussion Recital Preparation
The Percussion Recital is scheduled for Monday, May 7th, from 4-7 in the bandroom. All students will play a solo piece (unless prior approval is given for a chamber work). The works will be as follows:
- Freshmen – John Pratt Snare Solo (I will assign)
- Sophomores – 4-Mallet Solo (I will help you choose)
- Juniors – Multi-Percussion or Timpani Solo
- Seniors – Senior Project revolving around a pre-approved solo performance
