First Week of School

Everybody-

First of all, I have to commend you all on a great summer!  The sheer volume of accomplishment and growth that we have achieved as a group has been astounding, and fun to watch!  We will continue to get good work done in the school year, and keep pushing!  LCI is about 6 weeks away, so that should give you an idea of our projected path of completion and drive.

Regarding the schedules, a couple things that you should all consider: not everyone is in the right class right now, and guidance is aware of the issue.  They are trying to juggle a lot of courses, and trying to do the best for the most amount of kids.

This next week, we only have band Tuesday and Thursday, after school 4:45-7:30.  There is an away game at Summerville on Friday night, but that will only involve upperclassmen that haven’t switched to a new instrument.  There will be 2 other games for other drumline members to attend.

As of right now, Pit is scheduled for 1st block, and Battery is 2nd block, so hopefully you are slated for the correct class.  Some of you may need to make some sacrifices to be in the correct class.  I will continue to send guidance the class list(s), and try our best to get kids in the right spots.  One thing you can all do to make this work is see what other options you might have if your class got moved.  Ask yourselves if the conflicting classes are something you need to graduate, and then if there is something else to take its place.   Some of the weird classes I took in college to get the needed credits were quite interesting.  In any case, I want to have the most kids in the right class, and this year shouldn’t be any different than other years…

I’ll be working to get it right, but you will likely not get your schedules, right or wrong, until Monday morning.  Don’t fret, unless you have a conflict with 1st or 2nd block, then try your best to figure out a new plan…

Band Camp 2018

Hey everybody-

First off, if you aren’t on the @wandoperc and @18bow Remind threads, please sign up immediately for those.  If you don’t know how, just text @wandoperc to the number 81010.  Do the same for @18bow.

Next, here is some info that went out, make sure you go through it.  Things are different this year, so important for you to all know what’s going on.

Band Camp Schedule

Lastly, big thanks to all the members that went out of their way to help out new members, and those that were there to help teach drill and new material to those that have missed.  Hopefully we can go into this band camp full speed ahead, and those that are behind have taken the steps to get caught up.  Our leadership kids went out of their way to help out this week, and that should not go unnoticed by anybody.

Lastly, Vince is here Monday and Tuesday, there is a bunch of new gear in the bandroom, and we have a bunch of great things to look forward to this year!  All music will be in your hands tomorrow, too!  See you then!

Music and Planning for the coming week

All-

As we creep up to the first 3 day camp, I want to make sure that we are all ready to hit the ground running.  In preparation, there are a few things that you should all have ready to go.  Here is the list:

  1. 3-ring binder (1 inch works) with plastic sheet protectors, pencil, and music from the Binder Required Materials page
  2. Water Bottle (something like this)
  3. Sunscreen
  4. Bugspray
  5. Hat
  6. Good shoes (athletic, not flip/flops, Toms, Sperrys, etc.)

Also, make sure that you have been working on all the exercises so we can spend a majority of our time on technique refinement, learning notes, and playing together.  Your list of importance should be as follows:

Battery:

  1. 87695
  2. Rap Battle
  3. Wandouble
  4. Triplet Roll
  5. Paradiddles
  6. Roll Exercise #5
  7. MO
  8. Sanford Shuffle

Pit:

  1. Green Scale Exercises per Dr. Haldeman
  2. 4-Mallet Exercises from Packet
  3. Warm-ups as listed above

Lastly, I am chugging away at the music for you all, and I have a bit ready for you at this point.  I have focused on battery writing, since we will be putting that to movement early on, but opener should be 100% by the 15th, followed by the ballad.  For now, here is a link to the music page, which includes the battery parts.  It is password protected, please email me or text your section leader if you do not know the password.    Current Music
